Hindi is India’s national language and spoken in the most parts of India. You can learn Hindi by doing a course (Short-term and long-term) course at the Government of India recognized Central Institute of Hindi, Agra.  Central Institute of Hindi, Agra is an apex institute; set up and fully funded autonomous organisation under the Department of Education of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. The headquarters of the institute is at Agra with 5 regional centres - Delhi, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Shilong and Mysore. The Institute is responsible for the propagation and expansion of the uses of Hindi.

Admission is given to the foreign students of the following categories:

(a)Candidate selected under the Propagation of Hindi Abroad Scheme (PHA Scheme) of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.

(b)Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP Scheme). (c)Candidates deputed/sponsored by the Institutions/agencies/ governments of different countries; or (d)Students seeking admission on self financing basis. This course is available at the Delhi Centre of the Sansthan . It is a composite course with a separate syllabus. Those seeking admission to this course should write to the Delhi Centre, Central Institute of Hindi.

QUALIFICATION

B.A. or equivalent degree. (The Qualifications can be relaxed in special circumstances particularly for the students coming in PHA/CEP Schemes).

PROCEDURE OF ADMISSION

for ‘(a)’ category Application forms can be obtained form the Embassies/High Commission of India. Two copies of the application form along with the following documents, should be sent through the Embassies/Diplomatic Representatives of India in the respective countries :

(a) Two attested/Photostat copies of the certificates.

Note: Original certificates, degrees etc. should not be sent. The papers attached with the application form are not returned.

(b)Certificate of Physical Fitness on the prescribed form attached herewith.

(c)A “Letter of Recommendation” on the prescribed form, attached herewith

Note: For category ‘(d)’ Self-financed candidates should send their applications directly to Delhi Centre.

Embassies/Diplomatic Representatives will send the application form together with the necessary documents to the Director, Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Hindi Sansthan Marg, Agra - 282005.

AGE LIMIT

The maximum age for admission in any courses is 35 years. (Relaxation in age limit can be granted in deserving cases.) This condition does not apply to self-financed candidates.

ACADEMIC YEAR

The academic year of the Sansthan is from August 1 to April 30. It comprises two semesters: August-December & January-April.

ACCOMMODATION

For the students of category, ‘(A)’-Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra provides rent free hostel accommodation to male and female students in separate premises. Stay in Hostel is mandatory. Hostel accommodation is provided to the regular students of the Sansthan and not to their families, dependents or friends.

Note: The students staying in the hostels will have to follow the rules and regulations of the hostel. The rules and regulations of the hostel will be made available at the time of admission.

THE MESS

Co-operative contributory mess is run by the students in hostels. It is compulsory for the students, staying in the hostel, to join the mess. The mess is basically vegetarian. Private cooking inside the rooms is strictly prohibited.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Students admitted under the PHA scheme are paid scholarship and an economy class air-fare to and fro to their respective countries. In addition they are given Rs. 400/- as books grant per annum. The students selected under PHA scheme are entitled to financial support from August 1st (or from their date of joining the Sansthan) through April 30th.

FEES

1. Tution Fee Rs. 8000/-

2. Admission Fee Rs. 500/-

3. Examination Fee Rs. 500/-

4. Miscellaneous Activities Rs. 1000/-

5. Library security Deposit Rs. 500/-
1 Real $ is equivalent to Rs. 23 as on 9 September 2008.

The Library Security Deposit is refunded at the end of the academic session, after all the books are returned and “no objection certificate” obtained from the librarian.

Note: Students who come under the PHA or CEP schemes and get Govt. of India scholarship, are exempted from tuition fee.

MEDICAL FACILITIES

In the case of hospitalization, Sansthan will reimburse the amount which would have been spent in a government hospital. (This facility is available only to the scholarship holders of PHA Scheme.)

DISCIPLINE

All the students are required to abide by the rules laid down by the Sansthan. Breach of discipline can result in cancellation of scholarship and even cancellation of admission to the Sansthan.

ATTENDANCE

80% attendance in each class is mandatory.

EXAMINATION AND CERTIFICATES

An internal examination in December-January and a final examination in April will be held for each course. The proficiency of the students is evaluated on the basis of marks obtained in these examinations and accordingly Certificate/Diploma is granted.
