In the Pre-monsoon Season, the rainfall from March 1, 2008 to April 2, 2008 was normal/excess in 19 meteorological sub-divisions (53 per cent) and deficient/scanty in the remaining 17 (47 per cent).

Wheat procurement as on January 31, 2008 (in the year 2007-08) was at 11.13 million tonnes as compared to 9.23 million tonnes (increased by 20.6 per cent) in the corresponding period of last year. While, procurement of rice as on January 31, 2008 was at 17.20 million tonnes as compared to 16.77 million tonnes (increased by 2.6 per cent) in the corresponding period of last year.
