INDO-BRAZILIAN TRADE
December2006
External
– Bilateral with India
The trade between India and Brazil
has reached US $ 2.4billion during 2006. During this period,
India’s exports to Brazil were all time record at US $ 1.47
billion and Brazil’s exports to India were US $ 937 million.
Brazilian exports to India witnessed a decline of 17.6%, mainly
due to the high exports of airplanes last year and appreciation
of real against dollar. Crude petroleum (21.3%), copper (15.6%),
crude soya oil (11.1%), aircrafts (8.9%) and iron ore (4.2
%) were the prominent export earners for Brazil. Crude petroleum,
copper and aircrafts witnessed a growth of 283 %, 318 % and
315 % respectively in 2006. The mineral exports from Brazil
are expected to further increase since Brazil has a vast reserve
of almost all the metals and non-metals.
India’s Exports:
India’s exports to Brazil increased by 22.5 % during 2006
over the last year. India exported US $ 1.47 billion worth
of goods during 2006, thus crossing the US $ 1.2 billion mark
in 2005. The share of India’s exports in total basket of Brazil’s
imports is 1.6 %. It is to be noted that during the last four
months of 2006 viz. September, October, November and December
2006, India exported almost half of the total exports during
the whole year. It could be said that the PM’s visit to Brazil
has galvanized the movement from India. Major items India
exported were diesel oil (49.3%), kerosene for the airplanes
(2%), polyester yarn (1.9%), semi manufactured steel (1%),
chemicals, pharmaceutical products among others.
