JOINT STATEMENT ON THE INDIA-BRAZIL AGENDA FOR
SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL COOPERATION
The Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the
Federative Republic of Brazil express their firm commitment to promote
scientific and technological cooperation.
India and Brazil understand that in the identified promising areas
of S&T, two types of cooperation may be envisaged. The first one
envisages the role to be played by identified institutions in respective
countries which would develop appropriate activities, including exchange
of information, in the fields of scientific research and technological
development. The second covers technology transfer via research and
development enterprises, which may led to the formation of joint ventures.
Both countries are convinced of mutual gains deriving from joint cooperation
and are open to engaging not only state institutions but private enterprises
and research centers as well in their cooperation activities.
Such an approach sprints from a joint belief that the Indian-Brazilian
cooperation constitutes an important element in fostering the socio-economic
development of both countries, demanding the participation of various
sectors of society.
Both countries recognize the importance of augmenting of terms of
their 1985 Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, updating
it so as to become a more operational and efficient legal instrument.
India and Brazil understand that their bilateral cooperation related
to research and development projects is to be undertaken especially
in the fields of biotechnology for agriculture and human health, climate
research, marine sciences, new materials, superconductivity, and renewable
energies.
To achieve such a goal, both countries agree to establish a common
agenda as a framework for consultations and cooperation which will include,
inter alia, the organisation of joint workshops in the above identified
areas of research and technology development as well as on transfer
of technology and formation of joint ventures.
In order to evaluate the results of the cooperation activities, both
countries agree to constitute a joint committee within 90 days which
will meet at an agreed and mutually convenient place and date to be
determined through diplomatic channel.
