Export of Poly Ethylene Tereftalato – PET or Polyester film from India to Brazil

The Brazilian company, TERPHANE LTD., registered, on December 27, 2000 a petition with Department of Commercial Defence(DECOM), Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX), Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil requesting that an investigation be carried out on the imports of PET film from India. It was alleged that Government of India subsidises the production of PET film in India and that it was causing injury to the domestic manufacturers. Government of India presented its arguments against the subsidies and fought the case with DECOM through this Consulate and a local law firm.

In the Circular issued by SECEX (Cir. No. 58 of December 16, 2002), DECOM has decided to close the case after concluding that the imports of polyester films proceeding from India, although growing, had not caused damage to the domestic industry.
